To start charging the Surface, connect the
Power Supply
that comes with the Surface to a power outlet, such as a wall outlet, terminal board, or surge protector. You can plug the connector into the charging port on the Surface in any direction, but when you plug in the connector on the Surface 3, you must have the cable extended downward and the LED light pointed at you. When the power supply is connected to the Surface and the power supply, and the Surface is being powered, the LED light on the top of the power charging connector will light up. We strongly recommend that you use only the licensed Microsoft or microsoft-licensed power supply that comes with or is purchased separately from the Surface to charge the battery. You can buy microsoft-licensed power supplies from the Microsoft Store.
